Hexagram 49

Revolution

革 · Gé · Deri Değiştirme

Upper trigram: Lake (joyous, sharing) · Lower trigram: Fire (illuminating, clinging)

Judgment

The lake above fire: water and fire alter each other; a time of transformation, of shedding skin. This hexagram says that a deep renewal is favorable only at the right time and after earning the trust of those concerned. Change made not in haste but with inner preparation and a clear reason leaves no regret. A change built on integrity lasts.

Fire within the lake: transformation. The noble-minded put the calendar in order and make the seasons’ course clear.

Meaning of the six lines (bottom to top)

  1. Line 1 (from the bottom)Wrapped in yellow ox hide: it is still early to change. Staying calm and waiting for the time is suggested.
  2. Line 2 (from the bottom)When the day comes the change is made: advancing is good, no error. Taking action once preparation is complete is fitting.
  3. Line 3 (from the bottom)Going ahead is read as unfavourable; the talk of change is accepted after it has gone around three times. Letting it ripen rather than hurrying decisions is wise.
  4. Line 4 (from the bottom)Regret vanishes; one carrying sincerity can change the direction. A trustworthy intention allows the order to be renewed.
  5. Line 5 (from the bottom)The great person changes like a tiger: sincerity shows even before asking. When change is open and clear, trust arises.
  6. Line 6 (from the bottom)The mature change like a panther, the petty only change their face. Maintaining what is gained rather than pushing further is fitting.
