Hexagram 39
Obstruction
蹇 · Jiǎn · Engel
Upper trigram: Water (deep, perilous, flowing) · Lower trigram: Mountain (still, resting)
Judgment
Water above the mountain: an obstacle before the road, difficulty in the climb. This hexagram suggests turning back to review the situation rather than pushing outward. Taking counsel from a great person and looking for responsibility within oneself is the wisdom of this time. The southwest, the soft and level road, is favorable; the northeast, the harsh and steep one, is not.
