Hexagram 25
Innocence
無妄 · Wú Wàng · Masumiyet
Upper trigram: Heaven (strong, initiating) · Lower trigram: Thunder (arousing, stirring)
Judgment
Heaven above, thunder below: nature’s movement comes without calculation, from within. This hexagram speaks of the value of innocence, meaning acting sincerely without seeking advantage. When expectation and scheming step in, the natural flow can be disturbed. Keeping intent simple, following what is right and not forcing the result is the stance of this period.

Beneath heaven thunder rolls, and all things receive their innocence. The ancient kings, in tune with the seasons, nourished and fostered all beings.
Meaning of the six lines (bottom to top)
- Line 1 (from the bottom)Innocent conduct leads toward the good. A first step taken with a simple intent finds its own natural direction.
- Line 2 (from the bottom)Not reaping without sowing, not harvesting without tilling. Turning to the process rather than the outcome lets the work move in its own flow.
- Line 3 (from the bottom)An unexpected setback: the tethered ox is taken by a passerby and the villager suffers loss. One may bear a burden unjustly; carrying on with patience is needed.
- Line 4 (from the bottom)Being able to stay on the right path leaves no error. Holding on to your own simplicity against outside temptations is enough.
- Line 5 (from the bottom)An unease with no clear cause may pass by itself. Waiting without hurrying to seek a remedy is also an option.
- Line 6 (from the bottom)Innocence out of season: a step taken without regard for the right moment may meet an obstacle. Pausing to sense the timing is suggested.
Question for reflection
What could you do simply because it comes from within, without calculating the result?
